So TASCAM has come out with an app called Portastudio for the iPad, will it be useful or just another toy for the iPad?

I think this is a cool idea but honestly...I have no desire to buy an ipad. I think this is great for fun or for the guy that wants to record acoustic in the park.
neat idea, don't know how useful it is, especially because other companies have already released 4, 6, and 8 track recording software for ipad and iphone. i would honestly love to see Apple itself make a version of Logic or even Garage Band for the iPad. having software instruments, one-hit samples, and loops to work with would be infinitely better than a simple and rather limited recording application. being able to arrange a song with drum programming, piano chord blocking, and soft-instrument melody lines could be a real tool for writing songs on the go, but without those features and without true arrangement capabilities, you might as well go by a $100 Zoom recorder and call it a day, way less to carry around. again, neat idea, but it's a novelty at best until somebody releases an app with a more complete feature set.
