A question for clarification in installing a profile. The instructions say "the unit will automatically load the profile, eject the CD and prompt you to reset." Does that mean you are to push the reset button? If so, with the unit power on or off?

By "reset" it means power off the unit by pushing the volume button. Then turn it back on by pressing it again. If you don't it will act pretty funky and you will have to repeat the profile download process again.

I have downloaded the beta profiles, and can't wait to try them. However, there is a mention here of custom profiles that are available, and I can't seem to locate them. Do I need special permissions or something. I can't seem to find any links, or mention of any links that would get me there. Thanks for any info.

You can get all the custom profiles that were made during the KD-S100 program at the link below.

I have tried the VAR 01 - 03 profiles so far. I am currently using the VAR 03 profile, and will likely stick with it for awhile. It gives me the best overall tonal balance, and pretty good staging. The others weren't bad, but a little too bright for my taste.
My car is a 2007 Pontiac G6
My system consists of:
Alpine 5.25" SPR-136A components in the front
Boston 6x9 SL95 2 ways in the rear
A Bazooka NOS 8 in the trunk, driven by an ESA (Circuit City closeout) 150 watt bridged ampSounds plenty good, although the Bazooka will be gone when I can find a decent 10" in a sealed box!

I totally agree with loosing the Bazooka for the sealed box! Since VAR 3 has a lot of low end you can use the Bass controls in the KD-S100 to tune the system to your subwoofer. Keep in mind the subwoofer output is NOT processed by the DPS in the radio. That is by design.
