Does anyone in the forum have an iPad? Maybe they could chime in here?

The iPads aren't available until the first week of April. I for one am interested in how people like the new iPad. However, I hope consumers don't get the burn like with the initial release of the iPhone. I too like being among the first to get new releases, but when the first releases are riddled with bugs and then the price drops right after the first wave of suckers like me makes the initial purchases, we are left feeling a little bit used. This time around, I'm gonna wait and see what the other brave souls have to say about the iPad.
I will say this... As much of an Apple fan I am, I'm looking at the iPad and for what I would want, I'm looking at $830. This would be a secondary tool for me. Mainly for traveling and running about with a fully equipped mobile device. I look about the world of net-books and for as low as $250 I can get one of these devices and do all the practical tasks I need from such a device.... As much as I may want to wait for the iPad and wait again for the user input.... I may just say f@*k it and opt for a net-book... OK, so I get ants in my pants when it comes to gadgets...
Those i=of you who jump into the iPad world, lemme know!!!!!!Posted 1 year ago # -
I am definitely thinking the net book route is the way to go price wise. Let me know what you come up with. I am in the market as well.

I think the success and failure will depend on how many companies add an application for their programs. I really feel, because of the portability size and simplicity, this could really be an amazing tool. However; again - the only way I see it revolutionizing the industry and replacing notebooks will be if the proper program apps are available.
I, for one, am holding out until more are available. But - I'd love to have one - so I can move our Mac Mini into our living room and use it with our television!

I'm interested to see how it flies, and I agree that much of it will depend on the creativity of the third-party software
companies, just like it has on th iPhone. The possibilities with this device are certainly vast, and apparently Apple has had tons of pre-sales already, with a big chunk of the interest comming from the medical community. I could imagine that having access to all kinds of medical information on such a handy and intuitive device would be immensly helpful to medical professionals. I'm personally incredibly excited to see what kind of music-creation software people come up with for this thing, it could be an incredibly cool interface for making music on the go.Here are my concerns though as far as this particular device "changing the world": when Apple released the iPhone, everyone knew it was gonna be a game-changer from day one, even if the first itteration had some problems, the concept was proven and it was a given thing that from that day forward mobile devices would never be the same again. I'm not entirely sure that the iPad will be quite so monumental. It just doesn't seem to be the "category killer" type of device like the iPhone has been, and mainly because the iPad doesn't have a category yet. A company has yet to put the investment and push behind a tablet like Apple has, so I feel most people aren't yet sure how one of these devices will fit into their lives, Though this cold be another one of those cases where Apple is predicting the future by creating it (remember the iPod?). Either way, we're living in a very exciting time in digital information and how we use and access it, especially in the mobile realm.

My phone being able to do things I need to do online was a huge step. I am liking the idea of being very mobile. Yet, I notice that people are more in tune with their devices while on the go then the rest of the world. I would think the purpose of technology like this is so we could do what we need to do and continue the other thing we are supposed to be doing, living. Just a thought. Since my phone can do what I need it do now...I don't really bring a laptop anywhere. I am thinking one device will someday replace them all. I am just not sure about the iPad being that device. I guess we shall see. I still really want to check one out.

I think Monkey (Paul) hit it on the head... It won't be a category killer but once it finds it's own "category" then we'll see. But I'm thinking that category isn't going to be what we may expect at the moment. I also concur with you guys in terms of avail apps for the iPad. For me, if the iPad were to take the place of my macbook (or if I go the route of netbook when traveling) it will specifically depend on 2 things. Like you all mention, App availability and Hard disk space. I find in my daily needs (both business and entertainment) 64 gigs is just not going to be enough space for me to leave my laptop home. At least a netbook has a few hundred gigs. With work, the iPads app ability with MSword, PowerPoint, Excell, PDF Reading/editing abilities will be a deal breaker. (It pained me to put a Microsoft product on my Mac but I couldn't survive without MSOffice for Mac loaded. The other programs designed to accommodate these types of files just didn't cut it.) So I am very interested to learn how the iPad will be received and as Paul mentioned, how it will categorize itself in the real world!
