I am still at a loss why there aren't much if any DSP plugins for iTunes. I know it uses Core Audio in OSX and maybe that presents a challenge? I am really jones'n for a quality "tube-amp" plugin for iTunes.
How about tackling some DSP "effects" next?

That's an interesting thought. Usually we use tube simulators in the studio on single instruments to add color. Usually these types of effects aren't meant for the entire mix but one could be created. The trick would be to manage the gain to the "tubes" so some songs don't sound more over-driven than others. You could use Soundflower to route the sound from iTunes into a VST host running a tube amp sim. It would be worth experimenting with!

I'm all for it!
Please fold me in to any alpha/beta if you want. :)
P.S. I think Yamaha or Onkyo have a DSP preset on their newer surround receivers that offers a "tube amp" sound. The idea being to degrade (aka add warmth) by simulating an old tube amp receiver.
