   Just bought and activated DPS for Windows after trying it for a day. I notice that DPS breaks up a LOT when playing music from my iTunes library. I can't get through a single song without it breaking up several times. This, obviously, is very frustrating and unacceptable. I have a high end Intel i5 quad core 2.8GHZ processor system running Windows 7 64 bit. I have on board Realtec HD audio sound which is the communication device being used by DPS. When I'm listening to music with DPS, CPU utilization is roughly 5%, so that can't be the problem. If I turn DPS off, the problem goes away. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, any thoughts would be much appreciated.

   I haven't tried movies or games yet, but will get around to it soon and will post results back in this thread.

   Update: Just tried a Blu Ray movie and a couple of games. There's a bit of breakup in both, but it's nowhere near as frequent as music. Don't know what that means. The iTunes music I'm playing is all 256KBS, some of which is 256KBS VBR. VBR is music I created from CD's. The regular 256 is music I purchased on iTunes.

   Another update. After experimenting with a lot of listening to music via headphones, I found that I cannot reproduce a breakup in the same spot where one happens. In other words, I make a note of the amount of time into the song and back it up to just before where the breakup occurred. Not once did it repeat the breakup at exactly the same point in the song. I have experimented with both the Music and Movie settings and they both behave the same way. I have also experimented with different sound profiles, including one I found for my Bose headphones. Selecting different profiles doesn't change anything. Some songs breakup a lot more than others. One song in particular that's bad is Avalanche by David Cook.

   Well it makes sense, you see the DSP plugin filters the audio before it's sent to your soundcard, so really those breaks sound like your chipset is acting iffy with this plugin. Mine sounds fine but you have my sympathies.

   DSP Plugin filters -> Realtek audio -> speakers

   Not sure why it would act up though, try updating the Realtek audio drivers to the newest version R2.65 and then see if it works.

   Thanks for the post. My Realtek drivers are "supposedly" up-to-date according to Windows. The driver version I have is 6.0.1.6196 which doesn't translate to anything close to what you said. I'll try the Realtek web site and look for R2.65, but it doesn't sound like you and I have the same Realtek on board audio. I realize that DSP has control first and passes the audio to the sound device. After reading the FAQ's, I tried the DPC latency checker and could find no correlation between drop outs and latency. They happen when DPC is showing green bars (low latency) but not necessarily when a red bar appears (high latency). If I shut down DPS, I never get drop outs. It's the only variable in the equation, which is why I'm stymied. I don't know if there's an answer to this issue and would like to hear from someone at Bongiovi.

   Went to the Realtek site and downloaded R2.65. The actual driver is labelled 6.0.1.6449 in the Windows Device Manager, and it's dated Aug. 30, 2011. I thank you for that tip. I've played some music and, so far, there are still drop outs, however, there may be slightly fewer. I love the way DPS performs and found a Bose profile for QC15 headphones, which is close to mine, which are QC3's. Unfortunately, I'm sitting here listening to music on a high end computer where nothing else is going on and still getting drop outs. I'm also running the DPC software and am not getting any latency problems. Would love to get DPS for my iPod Touch, but found out I have a 2nd generation model which DPS doesn't support for some reason.

   Thanks for everything. I'm sure someone from Bongiovi cruises these forums and will chime in sometime. Otherwise, I've been thinking about getting a high end 7.1 Creative Labs sound card. It will undoubtedly perform much better than the on-board Realtek audio and it might help with this problem.

   Another update. I happened to stumble across an Apple forum where I found complaints that iTunes has been having drop out problems since late 2010. The most recent post was dated July 2011 and indicates that it's still a problem and that Apple supposedly has not responded. I do have the latest version of iTunes (10.4) but, based on comments in that forum, I decided to try Windows Media Player instead. Voila!! Everything plays perfectly. I've listened long enough, using the same music I was playing in iTunes, that I've concluded DPS is not the culprit. It's amazing how cause and effect of these things makes life "interesting" but frustrating at times. Thanks Bongiovi for developing such a fantastic product.

   Guys,

   I'm going to keep an eye out for dropouts being reported by other users and post any finding here. So far they have been few and far between, however we must remain vigilant as any Windows or some other software update could cause issues with the sensitive nature of real time audio re-mastering. Since no two Windows computers are alike you can imagine how tricky this can get! Thanks again for your time to post this valuable info.
