We were using a common crash reporting service to help discover issues while the last version was in its testing phase. As I understand it the service was not disabled properly when it went out to the public and of course there were no problems on our end while we tested the build. Just one of those tricky things that slipped by. I'm happy this version is working so well!

Thanks for the update. DPS 1.2.2 is working great!

As a matter of interest, why does DPS need an internet connection? I can see needing it for the profile upgrades, because they have to be downloaded but, otherwise, why should it need one? An an experiment, I started DPS without an internet connection (I turned on Airplane Mode), and DPS works fine without it. I also notice that a problem I reported earlier with putting videos in my photo library and not being recognized has also been fixed.

Hi Joey:

Here's a quote from my previous post: "I reverted to the previous version, 1.2, and it works fine, although it thought I was a new user and asked if I wanted to pay for the upgraded version. I said yes and it gave me the upgrade for free because I had already paid for it. I'm using iTunes 10.5.2 on a Windows 7 computer. To go back to the earlier version, I copied it from the recycle bin and put it back into the proper folder, then I deleted DPS from my iPhone 4S and resynced the app and it seems to be working fine."

One other step I forgot to mention was that I recopied all of the newer profiles I have into iTunes, so they were picked up in the sync with the iPhone.

I also had the option of restoring it from a backup because I'm a big believer in running them frequently. You never know what can happen to your system sometimes.

Obviously, my solution, being on a Windows system, would not necessarily work on a Mac, but there should be a similar alternative for Mac users.

PFuller:

To summarize what I said earlier, I'm running iTunes 10.5.2.11 on a Windows 7 system. My device is a 64GB iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1. iTunes and iOS are both the latest versions and I don't use iTunes match. When I went back to DPS 1.2, everything worked fine.

if you go to settings and select to upgrade to the full version, you will be asked to confirm the 'purchase' and enter your itunes password, BUT you won't be charged again - trust me, i've done this a couple of times while testing...!

you should see a message indicating that you've already paid and the app will be upgraded...

So I purchased the full version months ago, did the update yesterday and faced the same problems. I unistalled and then reinstalled the app and now my full version is gone and I cannot access the additional profiles anymore. As a nice christmas gift, I'm also greeted with ads now. How do I get my full version access back?

Before you ask, yes the updated app does run now. Why? I don't know.

Very strange. Many of us here in the US were able to re-create and then control the crash by changing Internet connections, always crashing when Internet was not available. (proven in New York & Georgia)

I just ran, uninstalled, re-installed, upgraded with no problems on my ipad2 and my iTouch 4th gen. Playing right now with no trouble.

If any of you in the forums have Xcode installed and can pull a crash log, please do. I would love to double check our findings.

As Joey stated the issue is a Bug Reporter SDK that runs at startup or after hours of inactivity. We have seen this in the crash logs.

On the bright side we did discover a nice performance upgrade once we relieved the DPS from this startup SDK issue. Everyone should be very happy with the results when the update get released.

Sorry again for all the troubles from us here at BA.

I also have a very good internet connection. I can get Wi-Fi download speeds of more than 20mbps on my iPhone and 40mbps on my computer, so I doubt that it has anything to do with being in the UK (I'm in Toronto, Canada).

Hmmm - well, I have a pretty fine Internet connection over home WiFi and then a 50Mb/sec broadband connection - still crashes on both an ipad and an iphone...maybe it's because I'm in the UK....;-)

it's no problem to run v1.2 for a few days...still does the job for me...!

Just to clarify the issue is when you have "Limited" internet access and only at DPS startup or when waking DPS from background after a period of time being paused.

If you have good internet access or have device set to "Airplane" mode the app functions normally.

I live in NYC and am going in & out of the subway / elevators all day long. As long as I wait 15 seconds after leaving an known area with no internet I have controlled the crashing with very minimal effort.

Sorry again for the bug & hopefully Apple will approve the new build as soon as they get back from Holiday break.

actually - it's too painful to do the airplane mode on...start bongiovi...airplane mode off every time - even if you leave the app open in the background it locks if you don't remember, and you have to kill the process...I'm gonna revert to a restored copy of v1.2 and wait for a fix...;-)

It turns out this has to do with the error/crash reporting service we use. Go figure. The current work around is to put your device in airplane mode, start the Bongiovi DPS app then turn off airplane mode.

Unfortunately Apple is on vacation so we must wait until December 28 before we can submit the fix. Thanks for your patience everyone!

Just created a support ticket regarding this, but thought I'd share here too...been using the iOS app successfully on both an iPhone 4 and iPad 1 for the past few days, latest version installed, and upgraded to the 'pro' version.
This evening, the app has just stopped loading on both devices, where this morning it was completely fine...the splash screen shows for a few seconds, then the app crashes back to the home screen...

Have tried resets, uninstall and reinstall, and cleared down the media library...still the same...is there a problem with the newsfeed perhaps...? it's the only reason i can think for such sudden odd behaviour...
