Hi,

Thank you so much for the reply - I'm totally awed! Wonderful if you really could come up with an alternate Phoenix!

You rock :)

Your sense of volume leveling is correct! The Phoenix profile is very aggressive in compensating for high noise environments. In fact, all Cities profiles are geared toward maximizing the potental benefits of the DPS technology. Profile settings that compensate for high noise also have volume leveling features.

Not all devices require such extremes in dynamic processing. If you like the tonal characteristics of the Phoenix profile I can create a HIFI variation that is less extreme in it's volume leveling. However, all elements of the DPS algorithm work together to create the "sound" of any profile so there will be some tonal differences.

I'll try to make this variation available later this week at http://bongioviacoustics.com

Hi,

I recently got the DPS app for iPhone and I'm pretty much blown away... thanks guys!

Only one thing distracts me a bit: I sense some volume leveling I can't get rid of. I first noticed it on an Iron Maiden track (indeed...) with a lot of sharp loud-soft-loud transitions. It was a song I've known since '83 and I'm pretty sure the dynamics shouldn't sound like what I heard.

Generally speaking, I hear leveling when a piece has a lot of fast dynamic variation; progressive rock, certain metal genres and some of classical music being typical examples of where it happens. If there's a slower crescendo or a diminuendo, I don't usually notice anything. I use Koss Porta Pro headphones and tend to prefer the Phoenix preset in the app.

I know this is a minor issue, but I'd appreciate it if you could tell me whether it's the app or just me.

Cheers,
Marko / Finland

Hey soccerkingpilot - I've got my Pro Media hooked to an iPod dock to get line out audio, and this profile really sounds fantastic. The vocals and highs are there, and the bass is thinned out just enough so that it's not overblown as soon as you touch the knob. I think you're going to be pleased.

Here is a profile to test on your iOS device with the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 setup: http://avalonrecords.com/Pub/Klipsch%20Pro%20Media%20TEST1.bgv

Any chance for Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speaker plugin? I can't really find a good plugin that has the right mix of bass and treble in there. They all have too much or too little of each.

While I was listening to music with DPS one, I was clicking on the various profiles to download very quickly and iTunes crashed. I clicked "get" really fast to download them all and the little pinwheel showed up and a few seconds later iTunes crashed.

Actually a lot of the profiles are actually the same. In our quest to help our users feel comfortable with experimenting with different profiles we decided to move to City Profiles. Since we have been in a bit of a holding pattern due to iTunes 10.4 the Cities have been slow to arrive to Mac. Here is what we will see in the next iTunes DPS Plug-In release:

Universal 1 = Miami Speakers
Universal 2 = London Speakers
Universal 3 = New York Speakers
Universal 4 = Paris Speakers
Universal 5 = Los Angeles
Universal 6 = Amsterdam Speakers

Universal Headphones 1 = Miami Headphones
Universal Headphones 2 = London Headphones
Universal Headphones 3 = New York Headphones
Universal Headphones 4 = Atlanta Headphones

You can see some of these overlap with the iOS version (as HIFI profiles) and Windows.

Just stumbled across this thread and noticed that the Mac profiles seem to be completely different from the ones offered in Windows. Is that in fact true? The Windows profiles don't even have names like Universal 1, 2 etc. but maybe they're present under different names from the Mac ones.

Just noticed an apparent navigation issue on iOS app 1.0.2. From the current song screen, the button in the lower right corner (looks like a list) only takes me back to the track list *IF* the track list was the last screen I looked at. Otherwise, it takes you to whatever other screen you were on. So, unexpectedly, the "list" button is acting like a "BACK" button rather than taking me to the track list which is the context for the current song.

So, TO DEMONSTRATE... pick an album, pick a track, and play it. The screen switches to the current song control screen with sliders, blue (B) button, and other controls. If you touch the lower right button (track list) it flips back to tracks, and touching the "note" in the lower right takes you back to the current song controls. However... if you touch the upper left button (the icon array) and flip to the "Bongiovi DPS" home screen, then touch the "note" in the lower right to go back to the song controls, then touch the "list" button in the lower right... SURPRISE!... it unexpectedly flips back to the home screen (icon array) rather than the track list which is the current context for the song that is playing. And, if from the home screen you had touched, say, the Albums icon, and then flipped back to the current song (touching the "note" button)...then from the song controls screen if you now touch the "list" button... SURPRISE!... it takes you back to the Albums screen. And so on.

My hunch is this: That the list button got hooked up to a "back" function, rather than the function to switch (always) to the track list screen.

One other minor annoyance: Upon switching to the track list, while a song is playing or paused, there doesn't seem to be a cursor or highlight on the current track (would expect the blue background stripe as shown when a song was selected).

Hope this helps! Keep up the great development work, and "Press ON!" ;-)

How does the app process when sound is routed thru Airplay to an external speaker? On iPad2, I could hear the difference when it is on and off, when it is streaming sound thru airplay but couldn't really figure out which profile was actually processing it. Is it the speaker or the dock profile?

The answer is yes! And 1.0.2 is now in the app store (you may need to give it a day for it to show up as an update on your device).

Update notes:

When updating to a newer version current profiles were being de-selected. This is fixed.

When browsing by artist, an album will play in order of the track listing instead of alphabetically.

The video bug has been fixed.

There are 5 new City Profiles. All 10 City profiles show up in Headphone and Line Out (dock) categories.

You may now add new profiles to your device via iTunes document sharing. We will be providing our latest iOS profiles as free downloads via this link shortly: http://www.bongioviacoustics.com/products-ios.php
When a profile is added to your device it will show up in all categories. I will do a tutorial video on this when we make the new profiles available.

Remember: If you have already paid for an in-app purchase, just do the upgrade again and it will be free.

Known Issue: We have identified a problem with playback using the Apple lossless format. This will be fixed in the next update.

Just found this post and got the app on both my iPad 2 and my iPhone 3GS! Sounds great. Suggestion: add some generic profiles like the iTunes plugin has. I found they help to adapt to cheaper speakers.

Question: I bought the upgrade on my iPad. Is there a way to transfer that upgrade to my iPhone, or do I need to pay for the upgrade twice?

Thanks for the continued development of the DPS for new devices and OS X versions. Can't wait for the new Mac version!

diego018 - The iPhone 3g simply does not have the processing power to run our app. Even with the code being ultra efficient the Digital Power Station technology needs a decent amount of horsepower to run properly. Another limitation of the 3g is it's lack of multitasking which is essential for the proper operation of our app.

Little Angel - Sometimes these odd glitches happen when the iPod player is open in the background while using the Bongiovi DPS app. We always suggest quitting any non essential apps as well a clean re-boot when trouble arises.

Hope this helps!

Rob,

Thanks for the info! I've seen several posts on Yaris enthusiast sites asking if this is a worthwhile purchase. It doesn't seem to be a very popular item with the DIY crowd since they mostly install aftermarket, but there are some who want to keep the stereo stock but have better sound quality. One of the best reasons I've heard is for security: having this means you keep the plain vanilla stereo, dramatically reducing the likelihood that someone would try to steal it.

As far as the profiles go, I'm assuming that any combination of settings is "safe" for experimentation? It may be overkill to try all 32 combinations, but it may be a worthwhile experiment.

CrankyOldMan,

First of all, I'd like to thank you for your post here at our forums. There are several different Yaris models available so here are the dip switch settings for all of them:

Yaris 2 speaker 2 door DUUUD
Yaris 4 speaker 4 door liftback	UUUUD
Yaris 4 speaker 2 door liftback	DDDDU
Yaris 4 speaker 4 door sedan UDDDU

Note that Toyota lists that these tuning profiles are intended for the current year models. However, they will work well in all year Yaris vehicles. However, it you have a Yaris model earlier than the current model year/design. Proceed with caution by testing the profiles at low levels first. The magic of the DPS technology are the profiles. If you are savvy enough, try all of them in your Yaris to see which you personally like. As with our DPS Plug-In and iPhone app, profiles work well on a wide variety of hardware (or in your case cars).

Good luck, and check back if you have any other questions.
Enjoy,
Rob

I have a 2009 Yaris and have the opportunity to try out the DPS module with my factory system. I haven't had any luck finding the DIP switch settings for different vehicles (other than the Camry it came from - U D D D D) and was hoping someone here could help out. Thanks in advance!
