We design the movie profiles around the larger dynamic range of motion pictures. Most modern music only has 6-10dB of dynamic range while a move can have more than 20dB! This is great for a well built movie theater but awful for those of us at home. Movie profiles also seek to bring the dialog forward for greater clarity. This has the effect of making music sound a little thin hence the reason for two different settings. There are a bunch of other technical considerations between music and movies especially within City profiles but I'm typing this on my iPhone so no lengthy post from me today. :)

Just tried out a couple of the new profiles and have a question about the difference between the music and movie settings. I have a set of Altec Lansing desktop speakers, which are pretty decent for their size, and have tried all of the profiles. The cities profiles seem to work best with them but, of course, there's a big difference between each of those profiles. I was using the Philadelphia Speakers profile, which sounds great for music, but awful on the movie setting. The movie setting is tinny and has no oomph at all so, my question is, what is the basic difference between music and movie settings for the same profile and what is the actual purpose for having the 2 settings? I do know that the movie setting emphasizes dialogue. Inquiring minds want to know.:-)

I have to say that you have done a wonderfull job! Audioengine A2 profile is by far the best DPS profile available, not only for Audioengine A2 speakers. Currently I'm using this profile with my 5.1 JBL (large bookshelf) speakers and it sounds great. But I'm still missing some JBL profiles...

Hi, jksennish.

Thanks for bringing the HK Soundstick profile for Windows to my attention. I will add it right now.

The issue with Cities not loading is new. I'm guessing it's a permission problem. Try this:

1) quit DPS by clicking it's icon in the system tray and choosing "quit"
2) Open the Bongiovi Acoustics/Digital Power Station folder in your Start Menu under All Programs
3) right click on the Digital Power Staion icon and choose "Run as Administrator".

Also, have you ever had any beta version installed?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A665 with i3 Processor, Realtek hi-def sound card and built in Harmon/Kardon speakers that pair up nicely with my Sound Sticks

Was very dissapointed to download the Windows Version of DPS, buy a license and find that the Harman Kardon Soundstick profile was not available in this release. Will it be coming soon?

Also, I was experimenting with various profiles to see what might be the best substitute, now none of my cities will load. I receive an error message reading; "Access to C:\programData\Bongoivi Acoustics\Miami Speakers.bgvw was denied"

Is there a solution? I've looked all over this board.

We've made a plethora of new profiles available in both versions of the DPS Plug-In! Here is some info:

New Cities Profiles

Each application of DPS has it's own personality and iOS is no exception. The audio properties of the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch have given us the opportunity to refine our profile creation philosophies. These profiles, originally created for iPod docks, have many nice properties on other devices. They are available at the bottom of the list in the iTunes Plug-In and in the Cities category for Desktop speakers in the Windows Plug-In (Advanced Profile Browser). Try them all! They are quite tasty.

New Custom Headphone Profiles

Urbanears Plattan
Zagg SmartBuds
Tune A Fish "No Blasting!" headphones for kids
Kidz Gear Wired headphones for kids
Bose Quiet Comfort headphones
Maximo iM-390 earbuds
Skull Candy INK'd earbuds

Voice Chat Profiles

We've been doing some experiments with Skype and video/voice conferencing using the Windows DPS Plug-In. We have added a few more options under the "Communications" category in the Profile Browser. The DPS Plug-In is excellent for bringing out voice clarity during chat. This is especially true during chat sessions with multiple people such as within World of Warcraft guilds and corporate conference calls. All participants in the chat session have equal volume and clarity when using DPS. We will be posting a video shortly outlining the setup for this.

Let us know what you think!

No problem! The stock profile is designed to work with stock speakers. That is why we created these profile variations: http://www.bongioviacoustics.com/downloads/dps_kds100_beta_profiles_v_1.1.zip

The instructions are in the readme file. Let us know if you have any problems. Also, click on the kd-s100 tag above and you will see a wealth of conversations on this topic!

For some reason upgrading the stock speakers on my 98 civic to infinity reference series with an alpine 250 watt by 4 amp sound horrible with the KD-S100. It sounds like the speakers are going to blow but these speakers sounded great in my other car with a different head unit and same amp. The kds100 has the universal profile cd installed in it. What I need to know is that do I need to download a different profile or do something else? Thank you in advance

Yes only 1 profile on a CD to load it.

As for which one would work best in a 2005 Toyota Prius, I'm not sure but I'll ask one of the tuning engineers.

Rob,

I just purchased a used KD-S100 on Ebay and am about to get it installed. It did not, however, come with a CD. It was last used in a Dodge truck, which I'm sure sounds nothing like my 2005 Toyota Prius. Please forgive my "newbie" questions:

1. Are all the profiles, including the Universal ones, available for download on this website?

2. I just burn a profile onto a data CD, then follow your online instructions to install it, correct?

3. One profile only per CD?

4. The 2005 Toyota Prius is not, unfortunately for me, on the custom profile list. Any suggestions as to a profile that would come close?

Thanks
Andy

Hey, everyone!
I've made some new profiles available via the DPS Plug-In:

iTunes Plug-In
Audioengine A2 desktop speakers - I have to say these are some of the best speakers I've heard given their size and price!
Bose IE2 headphones - Bose in-ear headphones. Thanks to Phil in NY for tuning these.
The Apple 24" Cinema Display profile has been fixed to appear in the Built-In category
The Logitech Z4 profile has been re-added.

Windows Plug-In
Audioengine A2 speakers - As I said, super nice speakers.
Logitech Z series profile - I know you guys have been waiting for this one!
Bose IE2 - In-ear headphones
Bose Companion 2 - Try this with the Companion 5 and let me know how it sounds.
New VOIP profile (under Communications) for Desktop and headphones
Updated profile for CA-2014 desktop speakers

We make these profiles as we get our hands on these devices. As I've mentioned before we tune all of these profiles by hand in our studio. We are also looking forward to giving you the ability to create your own custom profiles. Coming soon... :)

So I see that this has not been addressedin the last 6 months. Since these speakers also effect the 5.1 sound that I would want to listen to when I watch a movie, is there going to be a plug-in for this, or is there a known universal that will provide to me the high-end sound that I am expecting.

I notice that the request for the Companion II was quickly filled. When is the request for the Companion 5 going to be filled?

Is this link broken? I have an '08 Tundra (single cd radio) and am currently using var_03. Is there a profile that that would work better for me?

Found the profiles. I will try the Tundra SR5 profile. The SR5 does not have the same sound system in it as mine.

Rob,
Thank you for providing the link for the vehicle specific profiles. Those were the ones I was looking for - I guess
I wasn't clear.

I have a 07 Pontiac G6, which isn't in those profiles, but maybe one of the other ones will work well. I'll let
you know how my trials go.

The custom car profiles were only available to the dealers at the time of install.

Sorry about the last link, this zip file contains all the profiles for cars that were tuned during the KD-S100 program.
