Most modern music only has 6-10dB of dynamic range while a move can have more than 20dB! This is great for a well built movie theater but awful for those of us at home. Movie profiles also seek to bring the dialog forward for greater clarity. This has the effect of making music sound a little thin hence the reason for two different settings. I have a set of Altec Lansing desktop speakers, which are pretty decent for their size, and have tried all of the profiles. The cities profiles seem to work best with them but, of course, there's a big difference between each of those profiles. I was using the Philadelphia Speakers profile, which sounds great for music, but awful on the movie setting. The movie setting is tinny and has no oomph at all so, my question is, what is the basic difference between music and movie settings for the same profile and what is the actual purpose for having the 2 settings? I do know that the movie setting emphasizes dialogue.
