so today i finally got around to installing the stereo. the steering wheel control's work when the key is in the on position but they get really messed up when the car is actually running, so i need to do the programming process again.

but otherwise, i have no complaints. after reading some posts from the old website i decided to leave the JVC profile on, as it sounded really good as it was so i didn't really want to mess with it.

showing my friend the stereo i decided to put in the crutchfield supplied CD and yeah i wasn't too happy with the results. so i did what you suggested and burned the profile VAR 03 on to a CD and urgently waited as it downloaded onto the deck.

wow what an improvement, it improves on the treble that the JVC profile didn't have and dramatically adds the lows that the crutchfield didn't have. i was worried about my door speakers but it turned out not to be a problem because like the stereo advertised; it got rid of the distorted bass. overall i'm very happy on how everything sounds and works. this is an excellent stereo system and when my friends here the "bongiovi" difference they are simply wowed. good job everybody

CD-RWs are good for re-writing music (we do it all the time with the KD-S100) but you may run into issues with re-writing data for loading profiles. It will probably depend on your CD-RW drive. Besides, 6 CD-Rs are probably cheaper than 1 CD-RW. Best to keep it safe and go with CD-R.

Thanks for the tip on checking the junk mail folder! i rarely use my email and have never had that problem before so it never really occured to me to check.

anyway thanks for the advice i'm going to install the radio along with the steering wheel control adapter in the next few days, probably saturday. i will try the beta profile VAR 3 and VAR 1 before i try anything else. Do the profiles work on CD RW? or just CD R.

The beta profiles should help a lot in this situation! VAR 01 and VAR 03 seem to be the most popular for your application though I would recommend trying them all just to be sure.

As far as the speakers go, it is not uncommon to use the rear speakers to generate the bass to help the smaller front speakers. Since the fronts are smaller (and closer, which is not acoustically good for bass) they can easily be overwhelmed by the rears especially when they are mounted on the rear deck. Since they aim up at the glass, you can imagine that the sound is being very efficiently reflected to the front...just like a mirror! The stock radio may have compensated for this or most likely it just didn't matter without any real eq happening. Now that you are eq-ing the signal, you are changing many factors with how sound is reproduced in your car, hence your issues.

The Digital Power Station creates a much more efficient signal for your speakers to reproduce. This should improve the sound of the fronts AND the rears. Plus the KD-S100 was originally designed to improve the sound of stock speakers. I would recommend trying the beta profiles before replacing the fronts. You may still have to fade a little to the front but the results should be better. Let me know how it turns out! We are happy to help...
Joe

Kangy3 wrote:

"I bought this radio off of crutchfield originally just so i could plug my iPod into it. it was a decent stereo for the price and i have always liked JVC's products. Researching more on the stereo i learned of this Bongiovi stuff and i'm a bit skeptical. I have no doubt that it works like its supposed too, but i'm not too confident in my stereos speakers too make it sound like JVC and Bongiovi are advertising.

First off, i own a 1996 pontiac bonneville. The speakers in the rear deck are 6x9 stock. And they are amazing. Never before have i heard such bassy and responsive stock speakers. they sound great and i couldn't be happier with them.

my door speakers? not so much. the rear speakers completely drown them out and you never really notice them until you turn the fade up to them about 3/4 of the way. with the rear speakers off, the sound coming from the front is a joke. I think the most of it has to do with how my equalizer is set. which is 7 band, shaped like a V. bass up, mids at the middle of the equalizer, and the treble up. The highs in my door speakers are almost completely being drowned out from the bass. and the bass in the door speakers really suck. this results in a muddy sound that is almost completely overrun by distorted bass.

i have no doubts that this feature works, i just don't think my door speakers can justify it's use. That's why i came to this site and downloaded the beta profiles. Can anyone recommend which profile i should use? or am i better off upgrading my door speakers. (which i plan on doing in a couple months anyway.)

additional information: i'm pretty sure my bonneville's door speakers have tweeters, because there is a smaller, second grill in each door. i would love some help and i will get back to you asap and i will be installing the stereo sometime in the next two weeks."
