Just in the last couple of days I've had two incidents with static at the end of the last track of an album. In other words, I played the entire album and got to the end of the last song, then there was like two bursts of static lasting 5-10 seconds.

Thanks Joey. I really appreciate your fast response to my post. There's nothing worse than adding a post to a board/forum like this and wondering when and if someone will respond. As far as my 2 issues, it figures that Apple would stand in the way of the perfection of a really great app, like your DPS. But I do look forward to the release of the 1.1 update. Most of my albums are not live, so my issue #1 is by no means a "deal-breaker." The second issue is more important to me (as well as to some other reviewers who've posted elsewhere), so the prospect of that one being resolved is good news. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Perry. The above mentioned issues are directly in our radar. I've tested some of the playback improvements made to 1.1 and they are quite substantial; most notably the sonic quality of Apple Lossless files being processed by DPS.

You are correct in your item 1 in that Apple allows access to the iTunes library in a limited fashion to 3rd part apps like ours. In order to even play one song I believe a new playlist must be created. This creates a lot of intricate maneuvering in the background to provide emulation of the iPod's functionality. I'm sure this creates barriers to seamless transition between tracks.

Item 2 seems to be resolved in the 1.1 build I tested. Thanks to a re-work of how buffers are handled and a bit of wizardry from our friends at BNR the new version is very snappy!

I recently installed the DPS Plugin on my (fully updated) iPhone 4 and I think it sounds great...BUT...After only a couple of days of use, I've noticed 2 PROBLEMS so far, which you may or may not be aware of:

1) Whenever I play ANY "Live" music album, there is a brief but noticeable "break" between all tracks, spoiling the seamless transitions ("live concert effect") of the original live album. This does NOT happen when playing the same album on the phone's iPod player. [I suspect it has something to do with how the phone's iPod player "knows" better how the album was recorded within iTunes, whereas the DPS may be only "permitted" by Apple to grab each track individually?]

2) Whenever playing music selections within the "Artists" or "Albums" categories (I haven't tried other categories yet), the playback "loops" back to the beginning of the particular artist or album, upon completion of the last, or only, track of that artist's or album's selections) and starts to replay everything all over again! (I do NOT have the DPS or iPod apps' settings set to replay and as always, I do NOT have the phone's iPod app open at the same time as the DPS app.) [This issue has been raised a number of times by other users within the "Reviews" area of this app at the iTunes store.]

I hope the above 2 issues can be reviewed and corrected. That would be great! Thank you very much.

Just wondering... are the new HIFI profiles loadable "on the go" as updates into the DPS app on iPhones? Any other methods besides iTunes document sharing and synching iPhone to iTunes? Just on a lark... I couldn't find a way to force an "update" of the DPS app, so I deleted it and reinstalled it, upgraded again. Didn't pick up any new profiles though. Guess I'll wait until I can sync up ;-) ...unless there are other update methods to add .bgv profiles... perhaps by way of Safari browser or another app? Just learning... Thanks! ;-)

Just noticed an apparent navigation issue on iOS app 1.0.2. From the current song screen, the button in the lower right corner (looks like a list) only takes me back to the track list *IF* the track list was the last screen I looked at. Otherwise, it takes you to whatever other screen you were on. So, unexpectedly, the "list" button is acting like a "BACK" button rather than taking me to the track list which is the context for the current song.

So, TO DEMONSTRATE... pick an album, pick a track, and play it. The screen switches to the current song control screen with sliders, blue (B) button, and other controls. If you touch the lower right button (track list) it flips back to tracks, and touching the "note" in the lower right takes you back to the current song controls. However... if you touch the upper left button (the icon array) and flip to the "Bongiovi DPS" home screen, then touch the "note" in the lower right to go back to the song controls, then touch the "list" button in the lower right... SURPRISE!... it unexpectedly flips back to the home screen (icon array) rather than the track list which is the current context for the song that is playing. And, if from the home screen you had touched, say, the Albums icon, and then flipped back to the current song (touching the "note" button)...then from the song controls screen if you now touch the "list" button... SURPRISE!... it takes you back to the Albums screen. And so on.

My hunch is this: That the list button got hooked up to a "back" function, rather than the function to switch (always) to the track list screen.

One other minor annoyance: Upon switching to the track list, while a song is playing or paused, there doesn't seem to be a cursor or highlight on the current track (would expect the blue background stripe as shown when a song was selected).

Hope this helps! Keep up the great development work, and "Press ON!" ;-)

We don't currently support AirPlay or Bluetooth though these formats will be supported in a future update. I believe there is a bit of a volume difference though I don't think DPS is processing these outputs yet. Coming soon!

muecker - We don't officially support Bluetooth though that will be coming in a future update. I'm not sure what the difference you may be hearing is but at this point is could be just volume. As far as CPU goes, yes, DPS is a complex audio processor and does use a fair number of cycles to do it's job. These are mastering-grade algorithms and while they have been optimized significantly, there is a LOT going on under the hood. It would be wonderful if our app could just interact with the iPod player just as our DPS Plug-In does. However, Apple does not allow this.

crivera - Video playback is also limited by Apple in that only non-DRM content may be played back by apps. All video content from iTunes has DRM so we have no access to that video library. However, you may sync videos to your device by placing them in your pictures folder via your computer. Most non-DRM video formats supported by iOS can then be played back by Bongiovi DPS.

How does the app process when sound is routed thru Airplay to an external speaker? On iPad2, I could hear the difference when it is on and off, when it is streaming sound thru airplay but couldn't really figure out which profile was actually processing it. Is it the speaker or the dock profile?

The sound is great with my Zagg SmartBuds. I really like the difference when I listen to my music on my iPhone 4. I was happy to see that headset specifically in the list because it doesn't sound that great on its own. I did notice my battery drained considerably when listening to music this morning. I tried playing a game with your app playing music in the background and the game was noticeably slower and I finally had to pause the music, so obviously your processing takes some CPU cycles.

What profile does the iOS app use with a Bluetooth headset? I'm using a Motorola s805 headset and there is a definite difference when I toggle the processing on/off, but changing profiles doesn't affect the sound regardless of the profile or the category of profile (headset, speaker, dock).

Is there any way for your app to continue playing what I selected via the iPod app and/or change the iPod app to play what I selected through your app? I'm thinking about other apps that might give me more control over what songs I selected to play.

FYI, to qualify my opinion:
I'm an over-50 kid/engineer with an "eclectic" music collection and pretty good ears; I've run studio boards, worked in real time software, analog/digital, audio, radio, and RF electronics; I know what a TMS 320 DSP is, LOL! All that is enough to really appreciate what you all have already accomplished! I am also enjoying my "iP1c" studio units! So you all keep pressing on, and I'll keep pressing those blue (B) buttons every day my ears are still alive and I'm on this side of the grass!!! Thanks again!

PS, I gave all 5 stars on the iTunes rating for the iOS today... I'll find a sixth star for you somewhere when you add a graphic equalizer or some parametric controls so we can try our hand at tweaking/tailoring a profile or two. ;-)

Kudos to you all, Joey! I downloaded "Bongiovi DPS" 1.0.2 app and bought the upgrade. Playing very nicely on AT&T iPhone running iOS 4.2.1 (8C148) at present... yeah, I've stayed an update or two behind the iOS wave.
Keep up the great innovations...and "Press ON!" Cheers!

PS, I already bought a pair of iP1 Studio Series docks (love 'em!); gave one to grown up daughter (she loves it!).
FYI: Crutchfield ran out of JVC KD-S1000's before I found out about them (bummer!). When I can find one, it will go in my Avalanche!

I have installed the app o my iPhone 4 and on my "old" iPad (1). I have troubles with sound reproduction. Most of my tracks come from CDs imported in iTunes in Apple LossLess format. When I start reproducing a piece, the music jumps on, repeat for 3 or more times the same segment, and so on.
Is there any solution?
Thanks

1.0.2 is now in the app store! (you may need to give it a day for it to show up as an update on your device). After updating please let us know if any of the above-mentioned glitches are resolved. We advise quitting the iPod app and any other media library players while using Bongiovi DPS.

Update notes:

When updating to a newer version current profiles were being de-selected. This is fixed.

When browsing by artist, an album will play in order of the track listing instead of alphabetically.

The video bug has been fixed.

There are 5 new City Profiles. All 10 City profiles show up in Headphone and Line Out (dock) categories.

You may now add new profiles to your device via iTunes document sharing. We will be providing our latest iOS profiles as free downloads via this link shortly: http://www.bongioviacoustics.com/products-ios.php
When a profile is added to your device it will show up in all categories. I will do a tutorial video on this when we make the new profiles available.

Remember: If you have already paid for an in-app purchase, just do the upgrade again and it will be free.

Oh, I also meant to clarify something--will there be city profiles for the headphone port?
