Joseph Beaty on ""The Pop Song" Structure"

Often when I work on a songwriting gig (or a session where my expertise is needed)...I have a general formula or two that I consider to be the pop song structure. Usually a melody of some kind or a lyric is where it all begins. Once I have at least that melody, I then get a verse and chorus idea..then put it to a structure. Which is usually either- Intro/verse/chorus/music/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus...(or)...intro/verse/pre-chorus/chorus/music/verse/pre-chorus/chorus/bridge/pre-chorus/chorus. Woo!...that's a mouthful. Does anyone have another structure they use while writing a song?

So I have a bit of a cold. My head is pulsing and my chest is tight with what I am sure looks like radioactive goo. I will spare the gruesome details and get to the point. Many of my friends are sick in their listening environments. Myself included. We often don't realize what you are missing until someone shows you the way. I learn something new everyday from the guys that post on the DPS Insider here. Home audio and video can be a pain to setup. So many of us hook it up so it works and that is that. Our team is curious on how you are listening and viewing at home. What are some of the products you use? (Blu-Ray, etc.) How do you have them placed and hooked up? (speakers, sub-woofer,etc) So that we might offer our expertise and/or learn a thing or two. Post your symptoms and we will diagnose your home audio and video environment right here on http://dpsinsider.com. Note: I am a musician and production guy. I am a part of the team in this way. Songwriting is my trade. I am on the level where I look to the team for the sheen on my ideas. We work well together. I am hoping this kind of discussion can engage all the forum members. Take care and we look forward to your posts.

Wow! What a great discussion, Joe. Here are the organizations I think are doing a great job:

Mercy Corps: http://www.mercycorps.org They help people in need help themselves. The best kind of aid!

Kiva microlending: http://www.kiva.org They connect people with micro loans and is non-profit.

It is incredibly easy to get involved with these organizations. Charities of all kinds have been hit very hard by the recession but the needs are the same. The change you've forgotten under your couch cushions is enough to make a big difference. Start digging!

Too often now I hear about someone sick. I hear about someone on their death bed. I see people posting negative things in virtually every forum and corner of the internet. It makes me post something positive. It reminds me that life is short and that every breath is truly a gift. Most of us are letting ourselves fall deep into the massive world of information that is the internet. There is nothing wrong with that. I just had a thought though. If we spend just a minute online to ask others to think of someone else that is sick, dying or in desperate need, we might just make someone smile. That is doing good for others online. Log in (to facebook, myspace, etc.) and post a status that is enlightening. Leave the self serving downers in your recycle bin. Making a donation is another form of wellness we can offer to the people of this world in need via the internet. Help comes in so many forms and this technology age is fully equipped to help on a regular basis with the touch of a button. I am part of the DPS Insider team here and we all are truly caring people. We would love to know how you help others in your community and online around the world.
