So I have a bit of a cold. My head is pulsing and my chest is tight with what I am sure looks like radioactive goo. I will spare the gruesome details and get to the point. Many of my friends are sick in their listening environments. Myself included. We often don't realize what you are missing until someone shows you the way. I learn something new everyday from the guys that post on the DPS Insider here. Home audio and video can be a pain to setup. So many of us hook it up so it works and that is that. Our team is curious on how you are listening and viewing at home. What are some of the products you use? (Blu-Ray, etc.) How do you have them placed and hooked up? (speakers, sub-woofer,etc) So that we might offer our expertise and/or learn a thing or two. Post your symptoms and we will diagnose your home audio and video environment right here on http://dpsinsider.com. Note: I am a musician and production guy. I am a part of the team in this way. Songwriting is my trade. I am on the level where I look to the team for the sheen on my ideas. We work well together. I am hoping this kind of discussion can engage all the forum members. Take care and we look forward to your posts.

So, the Digital Power Station Plug-In for iTunes is launched. It's extremely powerful and customizable in its ability to have many different profiles for speakers and headphones as well as separate variations for music and movies. It already contains a wealth of profiles for the speakers built into the various models of Mac computers as well as Universals for different headphones, speakers, and earbuds, and even some profiles for specific devices, but I'm curious.... what kinds of third party speakers and headphones are you all using? Do you use different listening devices for different situations? Do you have a pair of "studio-grade" headphones or do you rock out on your iPod earbuds? Maybe you went out and purchased a pair of earbuds with a color scheme to be a cool fashion accessory as well as a listening device. How many of you have noise-canceling headphones? The more we know about your individual needs, the better we can customize and optimize your experience.

Hi Joe,
After a few days of using the Universal Profile, I have made the switch back to VAR 03. The Universal Profile is perhaps a little over the top, but still really interesting. Perhaps, the Universal would be the best choice with factory speakers. With replacement 6 x 8 2-way speakers in the rear deck and similar 6 1/2 3-ways in the front doors, VAR 03 is the better choice for this vehicle.

Looking forward to the release of the custom profiles. There will probably be some vehicle with similar interior dimensions and with nearly identical speaker layout among the profiles. My car stereo system sounds incredibly good right now. It would really be amazing if the custom profiles improved the sound even more. I'll probably be one of the first people checking out these new profiles when they become available.

Thanks for the advice and your good work,
John

John,
I tend to lean towards VAR 03 in almost all of the vehicles I've tried it in. But of course I created VAR 03 so it represents my tastes in audio. The original Universal profile, while delivering the WOW factor, is a bit over processed for my ears. The actual listening experience varies greatly from vehicle to vehicle so even after going over all of the technical specs it really boils down to an emotional response for me. As someone who records music for a living, I can tell you it's much more about the vibe than the numbers on the screen.

The membership to this forum is now up to 75 so it looks like the custom profiles will be available soon. I know your model year will not be available but perhaps a similar one will work nicely in your ride!
Joe

Currently we are working on an OEM device that will most likely be built into factory radios. I'm not sure if there will be anymore aftermarket products, but that could change.

Hey Rob:

Are the new aftermarket items you are developing for car stereo equipment going to start out dealer-exclusive like the JVC? Or will they be available to the public right away?

Hi Joe,
Of course, you're right about it being my decision about which DPS application to use. I tried VAR 01 and it did not really grab me. Right now, I'm going to go with the Universal Profile Tuning Disk that came in the box. To me, it sounds better than the other profile CDs. VAR 03 is a close second, and I'll probably continue to experiment with the other disks but at some point, you just have to go with one version. The Sable should be pretty close to a Universal-type vehicle.

The JVC KD-S100 with the Bongiovi Acoustics (& new speakers) has really transformed the entire driving experience in this 95 Mercury Sable. I bought the car on Ebay for $2,000, and it is in like-new condition. The car is fairly roomy inside with plenty of room for 4 adults. I can't wait to take a road trip with some friends.

Just out of curiosity, which DPS version would you lean towards for the 95 Sable if it were your car?

Thanks,
John

I have also had great success with the VAR 03. I have the KD-S100 in an 07 Dodge Caliber, and the larger cabin within really seems to benefit from the more blanketed sound.

You should absolutely trust your ears with this decision! It's YOUR music in YOUR car. For us at Bongiovi Acoustics it is all about empowering our users to achieve the sound they want. We always rely on our ears to make final decisions regarding DPS applications and so should you. If you haven't tried VAR 01 then do that and pick the one you like the most! Some folks even keep several profile CDs in the car so that they may change them to suit the type of music or mood for the day. I hope this helps! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
Joe

I have tried the Universal CD that came with the KD-S100, and VAR 02 and VAR 03. All 3 sound great, but at present I am using VAR 03. Any thoughts about the best version for this vehicle would be appreciated. I don't trust my own ears to make the decision.

Sorry to inform you but Crutchfield is out of stock, and JVC is not making anymore of them. The KD-S100 was a limited run by JVC with the Bongiovi Acoustics DPS technology. Stay tuned for other automotive products that are in the works.

I am very pleased with the JVC KD-S100, and the Bongiovi Acoustics is really amazing. Just installed Sony 6 x 8 Xplod GT series in rear and Kenwood 6 1/2 3-ways in the doors. I am reasonably satisfied with the way the system sounds now. Replacing the speakers was definitely worth it. I had the Sony speakers left over from an installation that never took place. I am trying to decide which of the Beta downloads would be a good fit for this vehicle. Do you recommend VAR 2 or VAR 3?
Thanks

My girlfriend loves the sound of my KD-S100. So, I decided to buy her one for her birthday. However, Crutchfield list them as discontinued and I can't seem to find anywhere else that has them. Is there anywhere else that I can buy one from and why would they discontinue such a nice item?
