Hi Joseph:

Thanks for posting that. It's an interesting ad and I'll bet DPS does a great job for car audio. I'm guessing it's also a cheaper solution than factory upgrade Bose-type systems, which can be pretty expensive.

I'm a fellow Torontonian of Edwin, but haven't followed him. Time for me to check him out!

Rob,

Thanks for the info! I've seen several posts on Yaris enthusiast sites asking if this is a worthwhile purchase. It doesn't seem to be a very popular item with the DIY crowd since they mostly install aftermarket, but there are some who want to keep the stereo stock but have better sound quality. One of the best reasons I've heard is for security: having this means you keep the plain vanilla stereo, dramatically reducing the likelihood that someone would try to steal it.

As far as the profiles go, I'm assuming that any combination of settings is "safe" for experimentation? It may be overkill to try all 32 combinations, but it may be a worthwhile experiment.

CrankyOldMan,

First of all, I'd like to thank you for your post here at our forums. There are several different Yaris models available so here are the dip switch settings for all of them:

Yaris 2 speaker 2 door DUUUD
Yaris 4 speaker 4 door liftback	UUUUD
Yaris 4 speaker 2 door liftback	DDDDU
Yaris 4 speaker 4 door sedan UDDDU

Note that Toyota lists that these tuning profiles are intended for the current year models. However, they will work well in all year Yaris vehicles. However, it you have a Yaris model earlier than the current model year/design. Proceed with caution by testing the profiles at low levels first. The magic of the DPS technology are the profiles. If you are savvy enough, try all of them in your Yaris to see which you personally like. As with our DPS Plug-In and iPhone app, profiles work well on a wide variety of hardware (or in your case cars).

Good luck, and check back if you have any other questions.
Enjoy,
Rob

I have a 2009 Yaris and have the opportunity to try out the DPS module with my factory system. I haven't had any luck finding the DIP switch settings for different vehicles (other than the Camry it came from - U D D D D) and was hoping someone here could help out. Thanks in advance!

The presentation was awesome. Although the guy at the booth told me the Windows Beta would be starting YESTERDAY... it was still sweet. It would definitely be a deciding factor for me if more cars came with DPS built in.

Paint the bezel with a color that will transition between black (color of your dash) and silver (color of the head unit); charcoal for instance. Get a $3 satin finish spray paint at Wally World.

Hey Moomba,

Sorry for the delay in an inquiry update on the black trim ring/bezel for KD-S100 question. I checked with JVC directly and this is a link they sent back to me:

http://www.jvcservice.com/service/JPartInq.asp?PgReq=DspDta&PrtNbr=LV21648-202A-NK

I hope this helps!!!!

That Var 3 profile works well in a Dodge Magnum. The bass response in that vehicle is very tight and punchy without loosing sight of those lows. (Especially in Urban music.) I went back and forth from the Dode Magnum specific profile, to the Universal, & to the Var 3 profile. I really liked the Universal and had that for quite awhile. Then when our trusty forum moderator here (Joe "XAQ" Butera) left the Var 3 with me and that seemed to be the magic in the Magnum. Well at least to my listening tastes.
As a matter of fact, I really like this profile when I leave the recording studio late at night with a reference mix that I just finish mixing. I find that I really hear the details from the recording session. This gives me an opportunity to listen and get a realistic perspective on what I will need to address in the next recording session. (As a sidenote: As a producer,I get a lot of my cool production ideas listening to music while commuting in the car. Some get inspiration while sitting on the toilet, I get inspired while listening to music & driving! What does this tell me??? Ahhh this will need to be another post...)
So, Bobby159, great post and heads-up info on the Camry results. I really like when people give their personal un-biased feedback!

Enjoy and Rock On!!!!
Rob

PS: Check up on the forum topics as we will be starting to post discussions directly from our studio sessions. We will encourage everyone to ask questions from everything about the actual artists, to equipment uses, tips & tricks and everything from behind the glass. Keep in mind, our DPS technology was born from these very scenarios!!!! We look forward to hear from you!!!!

Hey there Moomba,

Specifically speaking, the KD-S100 only came with the silver bezel (or also referred to as a trim ring.) However, JVC is known to share similar "tooling" from chassis to chassis. This means that it is likely that a black trim ring from a different model will likely fit. I do know that JVC's KD-SH1000 was a similar chassis to the KD-S100. You might pose an inquire directly to JVC. Here is the JVC Mobile contact link:
http://support.jvc.com/consumer/support/index.jsp
I will also make an effort to submit an inquiry, so check back here and I'll share my findings...
Thanks,
Rob

Is a black bezel an option for these or do the bezels from other JVC units fit? The silver from the KD-S100 doesn't match the black interior of my car.

I just thought I'd let anyone interested know, I recently loaded VAR 03 on my radio in my 97 camry and oh man did it make a difference. The mids were brought out more, and it was more balanced over all. The bass was less punchy than the generic profile, which wasn't ideal for me, but it stopped making my doors vibrate and rattle like crazy. Which I was thinking I might try dynamat for but now I don't have to! So thanks for those beta profiles guys, and I totally sugguest trying them out to see if there's a better one for you, keep it up guys! John.

Today i put some new door speakers in my car. They are some 5.25 inch 2 way (maybe 3 way, doesn't say on the box) speakers i found for cheap on amazon from JVC. I installed them and was using VAR 03 and was very pleased. They sounded great, but there seemed to be too much vibration for the speakers for higher bass notes, lower ones were fine, but mid bass was a bit much. I put VAR 02 on the stereo and oh man it's great. My door speakers are even more noticeable than before and the it helped a lot with the midbass problem. The highs sound great and low bass doesn't get distorted at all.

Best receiver technology ever.
