The VAR SUB beta profiles should work great in your situation. Here is the link: http://bongioviacoustics.com/products-car-kds100beta.php

You should burn a profile CD for each one and try them out as per the instructions. Use the volume on your subwoofer to control the low end. The SUB profiles seek to optimize the high and mid frequencies so you don't really need to use a crossover.

No problem! The stock profile is designed to work with stock speakers. That is why we created these profile variations: http://www.bongioviacoustics.com/downloads/dps_kds100_beta_profiles_v_1.1.zip

The instructions are in the readme file. Let us know if you have any problems. Also, click on the kd-s100 tag above and you will see a wealth of conversations on this topic!

For some reason upgrading the stock speakers on my 98 civic to infinity reference series with an alpine 250 watt by 4 amp sound horrible with the KD-S100. It sounds like the speakers are going to blow but these speakers sounded great in my other car with a different head unit and same amp. The kds100 has the universal profile cd installed in it. What I need to know is that do I need to download a different profile or do something else? Thank you in advance

Yes only 1 profile on a CD to load it.

As for which one would work best in a 2005 Toyota Prius, I'm not sure but I'll ask one of the tuning engineers.

Mine started doing that a while ago, but it has gone away. I was working on my car, and I disconnected the battery. After I reconnected it and set everything back up, it wasn't doing it anymore. Maybe that will work for you.

Rob,

I just purchased a used KD-S100 on Ebay and am about to get it installed. It did not, however, come with a CD. It was last used in a Dodge truck, which I'm sure sounds nothing like my 2005 Toyota Prius. Please forgive my "newbie" questions:

1. Are all the profiles, including the Universal ones, available for download on this website?

2. I just burn a profile onto a data CD, then follow your online instructions to install it, correct?

3. One profile only per CD?

4. The 2005 Toyota Prius is not, unfortunately for me, on the custom profile list. Any suggestions as to a profile that would come close?

Thanks
Andy

With all the stuff with toyota and for windows, things seem to be looking up for DPS. I love it on my JVC KD-S100, and got to thinking, is anymore aftermarket products going to feature DPS? even as an add on? Because I think now that it's bigger and people see the potential on their computers and home audio, that bringing back to aftermarket could work better. All my friends love it and a few tried to buy the KD-S100 after seeing mine but they are extremely rare now.

I know this is old, but the original problem the OP had was using an SDHC. SDHC uses a completely different block size and is not backwards compatible with SD card devices.

Any 1GB or less card is guaranteed to work. 2GB and 4GB cards should work if you can find them(4GB is exceedingly rare for plain SD). I use a 2GB in mine with no problems.

"Standard-SD cards (non-SDHC) with greater than 1 GB capacity

The SD Card Association's current specifications define how a standard SD (non-SDHC) card with more than 1 GB and up to 4 GB capacity should be designed. These cards should be readable in any SD 1.01 devices that take the block length data into account. Any 1 GB or lesser card should always work (so the key question is how one's reader handles block length).

According to the specification,[20] the maximum capacity of a standard SD card is defined by (BLOCKNR × BLOCK_LEN), where BLOCKNR may be (4,096 × 512) and BLOCK_LEN may be up to 2,048. This allows a capacity of 4 GB. The main problem is that some of the card readers support only a block (or, sector) size of 512 bytes, so greater than 1 GB non-SDHC cards may cause compatibility difficulties for users of such devices."

I totally agree with loosing the Bazooka for the sealed box! Since VAR 3 has a lot of low end you can use the Bass controls in the KD-S100 to tune the system to your subwoofer. Keep in mind the subwoofer output is NOT processed by the DPS in the radio. That is by design.

I have tried the VAR 01 - 03 profiles so far. I am currently using the VAR 03 profile, and will likely stick with it for awhile. It gives me the best overall tonal balance, and pretty good staging. The others weren't bad, but a little too bright for my taste.

My car is a 2007 Pontiac G6
My system consists of:
Alpine 5.25" SPR-136A components in the front
Boston 6x9 SL95 2 ways in the rear
A Bazooka NOS 8 in the trunk, driven by an ESA (Circuit City closeout) 150 watt bridged amp

Sounds plenty good, although the Bazooka will be gone when I can find a decent 10" in a sealed box!

Thanks Rob,

I've had the JVC unit in my car for some tinme and it has been great thanks to the DPS!

I've been getting the bug to tinker with the system. This gives me a much easier way to experiment with it. Shuld keep me busy and happy for a while.

One question, were the custom profiles available to non-dealers?

Thanks again.

I have downloaded the beta profiles, and can't wait to try them. However, there is a mention here of custom profiles that are available, and I can't seem to locate them. Do I need special permissions or something. I can't seem to find any links, or mention of any links that would get me there. Thanks for any info.

Unfortunately, no. :( The KD-S100 is actually based on the KD-S1000 I believe and JVC made many modifications to incorporate the DPS technology.

I was sure interested in the KD-S100 at Crutchfield a few years ago when I got my head unit, but the price at that time about $500, so I got the above (very good) unit instead. Any chance it could be retrofitted and "turned into" a KD-S100?

i'm using a 1gb Transcend card, no problems except it holds about 800mb of .mp3 format but, I created a folder and add another 150mb. Sound Is superior and 1 of the best features.
