Hi Joseph:

Thanks for posting that. It's an interesting ad and I'll bet DPS does a great job for car audio. I'm guessing it's also a cheaper solution than factory upgrade Bose-type systems, which can be pretty expensive.

I'm a fellow Torontonian of Edwin, but haven't followed him. Time for me to check him out!

I have a Honda Civiv 2005 with stock speakers and an Alpine iDA-X305S head unit. After installing the DPS module and having Joey Butera tune it, the stereo sounds AMAZING!!! Ok I might be a little bias, but it does make a big difference and now I don't have to buy more speakers and a sub. I've had people stop and ask what speakers and amplifiers I'm using to make it sound so good. lol

Rob,

Thanks for the info! I've seen several posts on Yaris enthusiast sites asking if this is a worthwhile purchase. It doesn't seem to be a very popular item with the DIY crowd since they mostly install aftermarket, but there are some who want to keep the stereo stock but have better sound quality. One of the best reasons I've heard is for security: having this means you keep the plain vanilla stereo, dramatically reducing the likelihood that someone would try to steal it.

As far as the profiles go, I'm assuming that any combination of settings is "safe" for experimentation? It may be overkill to try all 32 combinations, but it may be a worthwhile experiment.

CrankyOldMan,

First of all, I'd like to thank you for your post here at our forums. There are several different Yaris models available so here are the dip switch settings for all of them:

Yaris 2 speaker 2 door DUUUD
Yaris 4 speaker 4 door liftback	UUUUD
Yaris 4 speaker 2 door liftback	DDDDU
Yaris 4 speaker 4 door sedan UDDDU

Note that Toyota lists that these tuning profiles are intended for the current year models. However, they will work well in all year Yaris vehicles. However, it you have a Yaris model earlier than the current model year/design. Proceed with caution by testing the profiles at low levels first. The magic of the DPS technology are the profiles. If you are savvy enough, try all of them in your Yaris to see which you personally like. As with our DPS Plug-In and iPhone app, profiles work well on a wide variety of hardware (or in your case cars).

Good luck, and check back if you have any other questions.
Enjoy,
Rob

Hey mr.niftie. The DPS technology is currently an upgrade available for base level Toyota audio systems. While JBL comes standard in some units, it is not compatible with the DPS module. I would say keep watching the forum and related Bongiovi Acoustics sites for news in this regard. Take care.

I have a 2009 base CE Toyota Sienna van and the stereo has always sounded awful...I have to have it cranked and I still can't hear it properly! I am wondering/hoping that a DPS system could make it worthwhile. I have asked my Toyota dealer about the Bongiovi system for this model but they seem not to really know much about it. Can anyone tell me if the Bongiovi DPS will work with this van and make the MUCH needed improvement???

Wally,
This is a very good question. Even though you found closure to your question, I wanted to address this for the benefit our other readers. Note, this being such a great question, I sought the response from Tony Bongiovi himself!

First, let’s look at where the DPS fits into the audio chain. Since the DPS uses the factory radio (head unit) and speakers, we take the amplifier output of the head unit as input into our module. We then process it and provide the output to the speakers in the vehicle. Therefore, if the head unit volume is lower between sound sources, then this same relative difference will be recognized by the DPS module.

This variation in volume is a function of the generating source (FM, CD, XM etc). For example, not all FM stations process their signal in the same manner, thereby creating a difference in both sound quality and volume. The same is true between other sources for example, an MP3 can be quite lower in volume than a CD due to the time compression applied to the file and the player. An external mp3 player or iPod/iPhone can be regulated manually (when connected using the audio out jack) to compensate for any mismatch in volume between it and other audio sources. We suggest setting the mp3 player/iPod/iPhone volume to 75% - 85% of maximum gain in order to achieve the best results. The DPS technology is designed to compensate for variations within the same source. For example, if you are set to CD, then the incoming level from the reader is consistent and we can adjust the apparent sound levels to match the loudest possible signal from that source song to song. Once you change to FM or satellite, the incoming signal may no longer the same level as the CD therefore when you change to XM an adjustment to the volume control may be necessary to achieve a desired listening volume level. However, once set we compensate for variations in the incoming satellite source material (music, talk etc) to balance the volume song to song.

A word about satellite, not all receivers provide the same volume level as other sources. This is a result of the head unit manufacturer who controls the amount of gain from each source. The DPS balances the volume within a given source - some cases, where the satellite is relatively close to FM signal which in turn is close to the CD player, then little variation would occur. This is all a function of how the engineers at the factory calibrate their head units for production.

At higher volumes, the DPS attempts to even out these sources even more – with a lower volume level, you will notice that the sound changes to compensate for the lack of frequency response at the lower level.

So Wally, I hope this gives some light particularly about satellite radio. Please note, it's consumers like you with postings like this that allow Bongiovi Acoustics DPS technology become THE audio standard for ALL media!

Now that you've been living with the DPS in your Toyota Venza for a few days now... What are your thoughts on the DPS performance?

Also be sure to try the DPS Plug-In at: http://www.dpsplugin.com

Sorry everyone, I tried but it Looks like I cannot delete my own posts so please disregard. Not sure why but as I become more familiar with the device and settings that I do have control over the only source that does have some volume issues is XM, and this could be simply based on overall XM broadcast levels. I will continue to investigate further but at this point all other sources are fantastic. I synchronized Jammin by Bob Marley on CD, my BT and iPod/MP3 jump stick and when you switch between them there is no concernable difference, the entire sound stage is opened up, base is clear and vocals are sharp.
If I learn anything more on XM I will update the post, but until then I am extremely happy with the quality of this product and what it was able to achieve in this hostile environment.

Happy listening

I had purchased the Bongiovi DPS as part of my new 2011 Venza which I just picked up yesterday. (standard head unit) Unfortunately my dealer did not have a car with one installed and therefore I could not compare the unit. (Purchased it based on forums and literature) . If I take a standard Venza and place it side buy side there appears to be an audible difference at the same volume level but I notice that swtiching from XM to FM to CD to BT audio to MP3 there is a huge difference in source volumes. XM the quietest and FM the loudest, and other sources somewhere in between. To get the same volume XM has to be at 25 while FM can be at 15.
This has me questioning whether the devce was installed correctly as everything I read indicates source balancing, is there anything that would cause this behaviour?
They assured me that the dip switches were set appropriatly to the vehical
Other than physically removing the device myself to check before and after I was hoping there were some suggestions

Thank you

Hey Dano,

Bongiovi Acoustics DPS Modules are tuned & profiled for current year/models for Toyota. Officially speaking, the dealer is correct. However off the record, it is well known that automotive manufactures do not always re-design the interiors of each vehicle line much less their audio systems from year to year. In many cases, (not referring to any particular manufacturer) the interiors and audio systems are fairly similar if not the same for sometimes as much as 6 or 7 years. Or at least the interior modifications the make do not affect the overall acoustics or audio system designs.
That said, as long as the wiring harness that plugs into the back of the radio is the same as the current model, it is very likely the module will work amazingly well in your application. Providing the dealer will sell you the module and set the tuning profile within the module to match your Toyota vehicle, I'd say it would probably work and perform as magically as it does in the current model. Unfortunately, Toyota Canada dealers are the only source for the DPS Modules at this particular moment in time. (Although keep checking back here as they will soon be available at the US Toyota dealers - and for other auto makers also!!!! - Yes, you heard it here first!)
Anyway as far as your Toyota... As a disclaimer, this decision would be done at your own risk since the year models of your Toyota don't match the current year being sold. (You didn't mention what Toyota truck you have in your post above...)
To help your search to identify if your Toyota has the same "radio wiring harnesses" as current years, here are a couple of websites to check out. These are "aftermarket" sites but each of them have a vehicle "matrix." By using their vechile matrix you will be able to tell if the harness of your year Toyota is the same as the current year Toyota. If they match... Well, there you go ;-)

Here are the sites:

http://www.metraonline.com
http://www.bestkits.com

In the interest of being politically correct as well as giving you the inside scoop, I hope this response is helpful in your quest. Let us know how you make out. This forum is the premier site for everything DPS. (Check out the same DPS technology in the DPS Module, available for your computer at http://www.dpsplugin.com. Being you came to our forum, this is how you get the info you need. Feel free to add to this thread, as I will keep an eye out for more info!

Hi I contacted my Toyota dealership to inquire about getting a DPS unit installed. The sales guy didn't think it could be installed, he said it was only available for 2009 and 2010 models. He right or out to lunch? My truck is a stock 2008 double cab with a single disk CD player and no sub :(. From what I read each unit is designed to work with model of vehicle. Can I purchase this directly from Bongiovi with the profile for my truck. If so can you provide me with the link or contact info. Thanks

Yes, the DPS module will be available for the Toyota Venza and for most Toyota vehicles.

Toyota is launching DPS as an audio upgrade, starting with the entry-level audio packages. They have not launched DPS as an upgrade to the JBL package. The DPS module is designed to provide studio-quality sound without any external amplifiers or speakers.

Bongiovi Acoustics does not set MSRP or product distribution---Toyota handles that.

Stay tuned and we will keep you up to date on the US release dates as soon as we have them.

So I understand what you have posted about a delayed release in the US, but have a few other questions-
Will the DPS be available for the Toyota Venza?
Will it replace the JBL amplifier in "JBL Synthesis" equipped vehicles?
What is the expected US MSRP and will the unit be available to purchase directly from Bongiovi? (avoiding dealer rip off pricing)

I'm in Canada... my dealer is Heartland Toyota in Williams Lake. They look at me funny when I ask about the 'Bon Jovi' upgrade... and I'm sure next time I go for an oil change they are going to put maple syrup in my motor because they think I'm crazy.

Can you at least tell me if it's available for the 2010/11 4Runner SR5 Upgrade package? Then I can let them know to do some more checking.

Thanks.

Not a very spiffy roll-out... 1 month later and my local dealer doesn't have a clue what I am talking about... and can't locate any such part for my 4Runner...

Any ideas if/when it will be available for the 4Runner?

The Toyota/DPS car audio upgrade is available only in Canada at the moment. Toyota Canada was instrumental in helping us develop the DPS Module http://media.toyota.ca/pr/tci/en/the-audio-revolution-starts-here-172121.aspx?link_page_rss=172121 and therefore has launched this revolutionary system first. Check out Toyota Canada's site http://www.toyota.ca for a vehicle list and pricing---if its not posted yet it will be very soon. The launch officially starts Oct 1.

In the interim, you have a few options: 1) be patient, you have something to look forward to. 2) tell your local Toyota dealer you need the DPS upgrade. 3) (For all you non-Canadians out there) grab your passport and---- ROAD TRIP!!!

Here is a link to our information page: http://www.bongioviacoustics.com/products-car-toyota.php
You can click the video link there and I'll explain it in person! lol

The DPS module connects to the speaker outputs of the existing radio, performs the DPS processing on that signal then re-amplifies it to the existing stock speakers.

Each car has a different mounting point so I don't know if can be done outside of the dealership. I'll request a list of cars it is scheduled to be released with and will post it here shortly.

Howdy - just bought a 2011 4Runner 'upgrade' package... the 8 speaker stereo. The guys at Toyota had never heard of the audio upgrade in the press release... can you tell me a bit about it? How much $$$, does it work in my 4Runner, and does it plug in somewhere or how does it install? Can I do it myself?
